The grand shooting ceremony of online movie “Blue Tears” was held this morning at Marriott Resort & Spa’s poolside. Blue Tears is a Malaysia-China joint production by Global China Film (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and The Global Business Club (China). It is a love story with the main actor from China and the main actress from Miri. The online movie is targeted at over 650 million internet users in China.
Sarawak deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Openg officiated the ceremony which was attended by local dignitaries including Y.B. Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Y.B. Dato’ Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Miri Mayor Adam Yii and Mr Oliver Yong (the Chairman of Global China film (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd as well as a delegation from China.
Dancers comprising participants from various ethnic groups in Sarawak performed at the ceremony. I overheard some visitors from China standing near me commenting that the dancers looked so lovely in their traditional costumes.
The tourism industry in Sarawak is growing at a much slower pace where compared to Sabah and many states in West Malaysia. It is hoped that the movie will boost the tourism industry in Sarawak especially in Miri as several scenes in the movie will be shot at Tusan Beach, Mulu National Park, Niah Caves and Miri City itself. Sarawak Tourism Board is one of the sponsors of the movie.
The shooting of the movie is expected to be completed within three to four months and is scheduled to be screened both online and in cinemas by end of March next year.
We can only keep our fingers crossed. If the movie becomes a big bit, it can truly boost tourism in Sarawak especially in Miri. Look at what Winter Sonata did to Jeju Island in South Korea.
Wonderful post!
