Well folks, 2012 is here. As we usher in 2012 and bid farewell to 2011, we can look back at 2011 and marvel at what a year it has been.
2011 was jam packed: the tsunami and nuclear leak after the shattering earthquake in Japan, turmoil in Western Asia & Northern Africa, the debt crises in Europe and US, China overtaking Japan to become the world’s No.2 economy, the global population exceeding 7 billion, the royal weddings of Prince William and Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck, and the deaths of Osama bin Laden, North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-il, Apple founder Steve Jobs, singer Amy Winehouse, former heavyweight boxing champion Joe Frazier and Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor.
Here in Sarawak, 2011 witnessed a political tsunami that saw SUPP crushed by DAP, sending a strong message to the Barisan National government that Sarawak is no longer a “fixed deposit” for them. Pakatan Rakyat, once labelled as “outsiders”, have now well and truly entrenched themselves in Sarawak. It was truly a cry for change by the Sarawak people.
Today is the first day of a brand new year. I pray that there will be less suffering in the world and people can try to live in peace and with tolerance for others irrespective of race, religion or political differences. Try to reach out and touch the lives of others and make a difference in this world.
May 2012 bring you all an abundance of blessings and happiness!
