The times they are a-changin. Dylan wrote the song as a deliberate attempt to create an anthem of change for the time. The times they are a-changin too in Miri. Milk tea outlets, ais kacang outlets and western cafes have been springing up in Miri over the past few months. It is good news for Mirians looking for new places to eat and to hang out.
On our way home after a trip to Bintang Megamall, my wife, my son Leslie and I decided to drive around the vicinity of Pujut 7 where a lot of shops have opened for business. Meet d’Brown caught our attention and we decided to have our tea break there.
From its name, we guess it is most likely a western café and we were right. The décor is simple but looks cool. On one of the walls is written “Coffee is my love language” in chalk. Of course, they change this from time to time.
Small wooden signs adorn the wall, with messages like “Bless this house with love friends and laughter “ , “If you want breakfast in bed sleep in the kitchen” and “Be reasonable do it my way”. A blackboard hangs on the wall next to the main counter. The place has a nice ambience and friendly staff and it reminds me of the cafes that we visited when we were in Melbourne in May.
We ordered two long black, a hot mocha, a cottage pie, a croquet monster and hash brown. Both my wife and I have sweet tooth so we found the long black not sweet enough but after adding some more sugar, it tasted fine. The cottage pie contains minced beef with layer of mashed potato on top. It tasted okay to me but I must confess that I have never been a fan of meat pie. My wife and Leslie liked the pie. Their hash brown was good, better than the ones at McDonald’s. The croquet monster is a chicken ham sandwich that comes with a serving of French fries. I like both the sandwich and the French fries. Again, the French fries are better than McDonald’s.
Our bill came up to RM50.30 which is not cheap but comparable to the prices at other western cafes in town.
