On our way home yesterday afternoon, my son and I decided to pop in Route 66 Café for a tea break. We have read good reviews about the café so we wanted to experience how good is the gourmet coffee and desserts there.
Route 66 Café is located at Lot 1401 Of Parent Lot 991, Jalan Agama, Lutong. That is quite ambiguous, I know. Anyway, it is in the last row of shophouses after New World Mart if you are driving from the old Lutong bazzar towards New World Mart.
Route 66 Café is a brainchild of two coffee lovers and serves gourmet coffee and scrumptious desserts such as cookies, cakes, brownies and pies. The cafe uses 100% Arabica House Blend which exhibits a relatively strong body with less acidity and is smooth with a lingering finish and dark chocolaty in the aftertaste.
The Moka Pot Expresso, their signature coffee, is a rich, authentic espresso. The Moka Pot is a stove-top or electric coffee maker that produces coffee by passing boiling water pressurized by steam through ground coffee.
They also have their unique Cold Brew Coffee using water dripping method using a water dripping tower and coarsely ground premium bean from Ethiopia to extract consistent and full-body flavor. It takes 8 hours to gently steep the coffee with cool water to yield a distinctively smooth coffee with a hint of citrus.
The café is the sole supplier of DaVinci Gourmet products in Sarawak. DaVinci Gourmet® syrups and flavourings were born out of the desire to complement café and coffeehouse beverages. With more than 40 flavours and syrups specifically created for hot beverages as well as cold, you can create delicious new items from lattes to hot cocoas, to teas and fruit smoothies.
We ordered two iced coffee, a brownie and a salted caramel crumble. While waiting for our orders to be served, I walked around the café. Photos of customers adorn the wall near the entrance. I like the small blackboard poster featuring the recipe for a happy home. A few Route 66 signs and coffee posters add to the relaxed ambience of the cafe.
Our orders did not take long to be served. The iced coffee was fine but the brownie and the salted caramel crumble were truly scrumptious!
When we left the cafe, it was fully packed with customers. I will be going back there again to try their cold brew coffee and the Moka Pot Expresso and more helpings of the delicious desserts.
