Beraya Beach is starting to become popular after bioluminescence was spotted here in the past few weeks. Located 15 km from Miri, the beach looks great for swimming and family outings.
I dropped by for a short visit this morning. Assuming that there won’t be any sand flies, I did not apply any insect repellent.
Beraya Beach is a lovely beach and is relatively clean, unlike the Lutong Beach and Brighton Beach. Based on the short time I spent on the beach, the beach looks almost pristine except for some timber logs and branches.
I was taking photos on the beach when I saw several sand flies swarming around my legs. I have a couple of pretty unpleasant experiences after getting more than ten bites by sand flies on my legs. The areas where I was bitten would get swollen the next day and would be a bit painful and itchy. And the discomfort can last several days if you get too many bites.
Seeing the sand flies, I quickly left the beach and got into my car. There weren’t any sand flies when I visited Tusan Beach two days ago. I often encounter sand flies at Luak Bay Esplanade, Hawaii Beach and Brighton Beach so I would normally apply insect repellent as a precaution when I visit these beaches.
