The covid-19 pandemic is spreading like wildfire
The situation seems so dire
We are hit by a huge tsunami wave
The casualties are going to pile up in its wake.
We are witnessing a global socioeconomic disruption on a scale never seen before
Xenophobia and racism rise to the fore
We are taking a heavy toll
And panic is like on a roll.
We have been bombarded with advice about social distancing
But I wonder how many of us are actually listening
So many are still defying the Movement Control Order
Engaging in totally non-essential travel.
We need to radically self-isolate
Before it is too late
We know so little of the reality of the situation
As the actual number of cases is subject to much speculation.
Social media has become infected with a coronavirus infodemic
Spreading fake news and stories about the pandemic
It has become difficult to believe what we read
Social media has become a place where some people now dare not tread.
The misinformation can have serious repercussions
There is so many conspiracy theories and insinuations
And the system is stretched to its limits
Though the authorities may not want to admit.
We need to stop the finger pointing
As that would not achieve anything
We need to cooperate across the board
Stay tight at home to lessen the authorities’ workload.
Let’s look out for each other because we need each other
We can start by obeying the movement control order
It is a basic measure to slow the spread of the virus
An emergency response that will benefit all of us.
Every one of us must be involved in the fight
It’s through unity that we can show our might
Good personal hygiene is a must
Or all our efforts will go bust.
We can turn the tide
With openness and transparency on our side
Let’s look out for each other
Because we need each other.
