A few days ago, a friend was lamenting the lack of a flower garden in Miri. I told him Miri does have a flower garden, albeit a rather small one. If what you have in mind is something like the botanical garden in big cities, then you will be setting yourself up for a major disappointment.
The flower garden in Miri is known as Taman Bunga which means flower park or flower garden. It is very conveniently located in the heart of Miri right opposite the Miri Post Office. It is a small park with a variety of plants and flowers and pathways around a small pond.
I made a short trip to the garden this afternoon. Honestly, I find the garden a bit disappointing. There are too few varieties of flowers. I could find less than ten types of flowers. But I still have a good time clicking away on my camera, trying my best to improve my macro photography skills though I have to admit that I still have a long way to go.
In the orchid corner, out of all the orchid plants, only one has a few orchid flowers. Maybe it is because of the dry weather but many of the orchid plants look half dead.
Having said that, I do find the small pond surrounded by the assortment of trees and pathways do look pleasing to the eyes. The rustic benches would be a good place to sit down and relax if not for the scorching weather. There is a shed near the centre of the garden if you want to get out of the sun.
A small signboard at the entrance to the park shows that the park is open from 8am to 9pm daily. So if you are free, just drop by and see for yourself what the flower garden has to offer.
