A teenage girl who goes by the web moniker “Adelyn Hosehbo” is trending right at the top of Google Search,Facebook and Twitter in Singapore. And it is all for the wrong reasons.

Adelyn was thrust into the spotlight amidst a lot of controversy on Tuesday after she allegedly boasted on Facebook about slapping her mother for nagging at her, prompting an outpouring of condemnation on sites like Twitter and Facebook. Adelyn has apparently also stolen money from her mum to buy a LV wallet.
Adelyn’s Twitter account @AdelynHosehbo and Facebook URL have been spreading online today, with many irate Singaporean tweeters calling on the girl to apologise to her mother.

Adelyn, aka Gen Z Ah Lian, epitomizes the worst of the Gen Z, the generation born into a world where the Internet already existed.
Generation Z (also known as Generation M, the Net Generation, or the Internet Generation) is a common name for the group of people born from the mid 1990s and early 2000s through to the present. Generation Z is highly connected, as many of this generation have had lifelong use of communications and media technologies such as the World Wide Web, instant messaging, text messaging, MP3 players, mobile phones and YouTube, earning them the nickname “digital natives”.
No longer limited to the home computer, the Internet is now increasingly carried in their pockets on mobile Internet devices such as mobile phones. A marked difference between Generation Y and Generation Z is that members of the former remember life before the takeoff of mass technology, while the latter have been born completely within it. This generation has also been born completely into an era of postmodernism and globalization. Generation Z are known for sharing thoughts and observations on a variety of media, topics and products.

It is sad to note that other Gen Z, including both Adelyn’s friends and many strangers, came out in support of her actions; it seems that slapping your own mum is something to be proud of to these kids, with some even boasting to have done the same.
