Japanese Defender Ryujiro Ueda Scores World Record 63-yard Header

Remember Norwegian midfielder Jone Samuelsen?

During a Norwegian Tippeligaen match between Odd Grenland and Tromso on September 25 this year, Jone headed the ball from about 62 yards into an open goal. That goal was hailed as one of the most amazing headed goals ever seen in world football.

But this past weekend, Fagiano Okayama defender Ryujiro Ueda scored an incredible 63 yards header against Yokohama FC, breaking Jone’s record by an extra yard.

Yokohama keeper Kentro Seki must be more than a little embarrassed to have let in a goal from 63 yards that bounced three times. But this is also bad news for Jone whose record lasted just over a month.
