Tattletale By Sarah J Naughton

Mags has not seen her brother Abe for years, having left their family home when she was a teenager. Out of the blue, she receives a phone call informing her that her brother Abe is in a coma in hospital and nobody knows what happened to him. Mags flies half way around the world to be at his side. She meets Abe’s fiancé Jody, a woman with a lot of mental baggages.

Mags moves into Abe’s flat and begins to disover things she never knew about her brother. The more Mags learns about Jody’s relationship with Abe, the more she feels that the circumstances surrounding the events leading to Abe being in hospital don’t add up. Mags is determined to find out the truth about what happened to Abe. Both Jody and Mags have extremely traumatic upbringings but I couldn’t connect with either character.

It took me a long time to get into this story. The story is told  from the viewpoints of specific characters and also in flashback. The story only steps into gear towards the latter part of the novel. This book has all the ingredients for a great psychological thriller but it missed the mark for me.
