Fancy Having Dim Sum & Kompia At A Thai Restaurant?

Today is the first day of Hari Raya and the weather is HOT! We went out for brunch, seeking an air-conditioned restaurant so that we can dine in comfort. As we were also intending to drop by Bintang Megamall after our brunch, we settled on Tasty Thai as it is quite near the mall.

Two statues are placed near the door, probably as a sort of a welcome for customers.  A few Buddha adorn one of the walls inside the restaurant. The wallpaper on the other wall do not seem to match well with the multi-coloured cushion seats but that is just my personal opinion.

We have been to this restaurant on quite a lot of occasions and we generally like the food. We ordered pineapple fried rice, sweet & sour pork and Thai chicken. We have seen the banner advertising their dim sum in our previous visits but we have never ordered them. So we decided to give the dim sum a try, ordering soimai, sim zu kim, salad prawn and chicken feet. And surprise! They also sell kompia stuffed with shredded pork. We ordered a set of the kompia consisting of 3 pieces of kompia.

For drinks, my wife ordered her usual Milo-O while my son opted for A&W Rootbeer. I love milkshakes but unfortunately, the feeling is not mutual. I seem to have developed a bit of milk intolerance so drinking anything with milk often upsets my stomach. So I have been refraining myself from ordering milkshake whenever we eat out. But today, I allowed myself the luxury of a coffee milkshake. Let me deal with any stomach upset later. Not very disciplined, right?

Honestly, the coffee milkshake was good. I love its creaminess, thickness and the strong coffee taste. The two pieces of marshmallows sitting on top of the milkshake were an added bonus.

When the pineapple fried rice was served, it looked a bit different from before. There were three pieces of cashew nuts and several pieces of dry tofu. I don’t know about you but this is the first time that I have ever tasted Thai pineapple fried rice with dry tofu. There wasn’t a single piece of meat or prawn. Mind you, we did not order vegetarian pineapple fried rice. Fortunately, the fried rice taste quite alright though it was not as good as before.

The sweet and sour pork was a letdown. I guess the meat was too chunky and it was not deep-fried enough. As I bit into it, I did not like the porky taste and I failed to detect any crispiness. The sauce tasted okay. Compared to the sweet & sour pork at Apollo Seafood, this is just very average.

The Thai-styled chicken was nothing to shout about. It was okay and on a scale 0f 1 to 5, I would rate it at about 3.

The dim sum and the kompia were a big mistake. I should have known better. How can you expect good dim sum and kompia at a Thai restaurant? The pork fillings for the konpia tasted real salty and the saltiness overpowered whatever taste the pork might have. I will refrain from making further comments on their dim sum but the salad prawn was not bad.

When I went to the counter to settle the bill, the cashier asked me for my opinion on their food. I did not refrain from giving her my honest opinion. She seemed apologetic and told me that their current chef is a new one. No wonder lah!

By the way, the brunch cost us exactly RM70. Such a coincidental round figure!
