I wish you would stay,
Buy you cannot be kept at bay,
You are a river which sweeps me along,
Before I know it you are gone.
You bring all things to pass,
As I write you are fleeing fast,
You never sleep or rest,
As the sun moves from east to west.
You glide by unseen,
Silently without a hint,
You bring an end to everything,
Carrying everything into nothing.
You are so heartless,
Like a dagger so merciless,
You are a cruel thief,
Slowing robbing me till I meet my final grief.
Once gone you are never found again,
You care not about my pain,
I always talk of killing you,
But all the while it’s me you’re killing in plain view.
You may be valuable and precious,
But you are also so vicious,
You devour everything like a quicksand,
Pulling all things into oblivion with your invisible hand.
You can’t be spurred like a horse,
You only run your natural course,
You do things your way,
But Time, how I wish you would stay!
