There are a few Chinese restaurants in Miri that are operated by Chinese from China. But the only one that we patronise quite regularly is Lou Wai Lou Restaurant located at Lot 2236, 2237, 2238 & 2239, Ground Floor, Pujut 5-1/2,Jalan Fairuz. It is actually easy to find as it is visible from the main road and is situated beneath the premises of SUPP Pujut.
We had our dinner there tonight. We tonight included me, my wife and my son Leslie as well as my son Clarence and my daughter-in-law Amanda who are back in Miri for a short holiday.
We ordered curry fish, baby sweet corns, cangkuk manis with eggs and yam braised pork (yu tou kou rou 芋头扣肉). For drinks, we had two bottles of barley, a kedondong juice and a hot Milo “O”.
Service was quite fast even though there were quite a lot of customers. Our baby corn arrived within a few minutes after we had placed our order, followed by the cangkuk manis. The yam braised meat was next. The curry fish took a little longer.
The baby corn was lightly stir-fried with some carrots and mushrooms. It is good for a change instead of the usual kangkong belacan or bidin belacan. And more healthy too!
As usual, the cangkuk manis was very good. We loved its taste.
The yam braised pork is one of my wife’s favourite dishes. The meat was tender and the yam taken with the sauce was very much to my liking.
I always have a soft spot for Lou Wai Lou’s curry fish. In Miri, it seems that everyone will recommend New First Choice Cafe Centre’s curry fish. I have stopped going to New First Choice ever since I discovered Lou Wai Lou a few years ago. I find the service at Lou Wai Lou so much faster and the food in general are nicer. Moreover it is more comfortable as it is air-conditioned.
I loved the curry fish. The fish was very fresh and the curry gravy had an intense flavour. It was so appetising that we consumed almost everything. This is undoubtedly one of my favourite curry fish in Miri.
Overall, it was a very satisfying dinner. The bill came up to RM110.
