Are Smartphones A Boon Or A Bane?

Are smartphones a boon or a bane,

I guess it all depends,

On your degree of phone dependency,

And your personal inclination and tendency.

Smartphones give us amazing communication ability,

With their wide array of capabilities,

They are akin to a fully functional multimedia studio,

Rendering obsolete things like PDA and radio.

Smartphones offer instant connections,

They herald the advent of the smart generation,

Offering a myriad of ways that we can interact,

That is an undeniable fact.

Life has become easier in the smartphone land,

Distance shrinks as if you’ve waved a magic wand,

Smartphones have eroded the traditional online/offline divide,

So widespread and popular that they are used far and wide.

On the other hand smartphones are destroying our social skills,

Promoting many forms of social ills,

We become locked into not being present,

At the expense of those physically in our presence.

Smartphones promote a culture of distraction,

A dependency called compulsive communication,

So hooked to our smartphones we become,

Appearing like zombies to some.

Quality family bonding time has been redefined,

Staring at our smartphones while we dine,

Wasting so much time holding cold smartphones,

When we should be holding one another’s warm hands to foster the bond.

Genuine emotions are seldom displayed,

Emojis are now how feelings are relayed,

Conversations are words typed out on a screen,

Physical closeness is shot to smithereens.

Smartphone dependency has become an addiction,

Chain dialing and texting have become a fixation,

Real communication has been lost,

That is the real cost.

People smiling while they are alone used to be called insane,

With smartphones and social media that has all changed,

When you’re drafted into the smart generation,

You have joined the zombie revolution.

  1. A boon when one’s not a loon,
A bane when one’s not insane.

    A boon when it emancipates,
    A bane when it incaacitates,

A phone is best when it serves its owner,
And s bane when it ebslaves its nadter.

Boon bane boon. bane boon bane boon bane …….

  2. Incaacitates = incapacitates
