Crazy Rich Asians, the hotly anticipated big screen adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s best-selling novel of the same name, is set to hit the screen on Aug. 17, 2018, about five years after the book was first published. I thoroughly enjoyed that book as well as its two sequels China Rich Girlfriends and Rich People Problems so I look forward to watch the movie adaptation.
Here’s the official synopsis:
The story follows native New Yorker Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) as she accompanies her longtime boyfriend, Nick Young (Henry Golding), to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore. Excited about visiting Asia for the first time but nervous about meeting Nick’s family, Rachel is unprepared to learn that Nick has neglected to mention a few key details about his life.
It turns out that he is not only the scion of one of the country’s wealthiest families but also one of its most sought-after bachelors. Being on Nick’s arm puts a target on Rachel’s back, with jealous socialites and, worse, Nick’s own disapproving mother (Michelle Yeoh) taking aim. And it soon becomes clear that while money can’t buy love, it can definitely complicate things.
The first full, official trailer for the movie is now available courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures. Directed by Jon M. Chu (Now You See Me 2), the movie looks like a lot of fun and it’s a major studio film made up of an entirely Asian cast.
Apart from Constance Wu, Henry Golding and Michelle Yeoh, the film features an international cast of stars that includes Gemma Chan, Harry Shum Jr., Lisa Lu, Awkwafina, Ken Jeong, Sonoya Mizuno, Chris Pang, Jimmy O. Yang, comedian Ronny Chieng, Remi Hii, and Nico Santos.
