For many years now, I have been having recurring dreams about being lost in some foreign countries. In a dream many years ago, I was lost in an area near a small lake when I saw a lion on the opposite side of the lake. On seeing me, the lion ran round the small lake heading towards me. I was petrified and awoke with a start. In many of such dreams, I was taking photos. Has this got anything to do with my love for photography?
In the latest dream last week, I was in some big city taking photos. My flight was in a few hours’ time. I suddenly realised that I had forgotten the name of the hotel where I was staying. I could not get back to my hotel and I was totally lost. As time started to slip away, I began to panic as I would miss my flight.Shortly after that, I woke up with relief to find that it was just a dream.
Yesterday I googled “ Meaning of dreams about getting lost in a foreign country.” According to Cathleen O’Connor, Ph.D, Author of “The Everything Law of Attraction Dream Dictionary,” such dreams usually denote anxiety. They evoke feelings of confusion, frustration and at times panic. The dreamer’s current life is usually the source of any dream of being lost. If emotional outpourings of grief or loss are withheld, the individual might dream of being lost in order to process what have gone unexpressed.
Such dreams have to do with a current situation in your life where you are anxious that you will not find your way. You may be unhappy with yourself and keep wondering where you took the wrong turns. You may have lost perspective due to stress, signaling an unrest within your subconscious that needs your immediate attention.
Country in dream is a harbinger for your biggest fears. It may reflect your wish that you had taken a different path in your life and hints about the price you are paying for the way you live. You are pushing yourself and putting your mind and physical ability to the test. Your dream may be evidence for your anxieties about a death. You are looking to replace or substitute a missing aspect of your life. The dream may be a harbinger for the start of something new or better.
Other interpretations about dreams of being lost in a foreign place includes the possibility that you are facing some real life challenges. You should let go of old habits and change your routine, because, deep down inside, you actually feel that such habits are suppressing and delaying your progress.
Such dreams may also suggest that changes are occurring within your life, or that these changes need to take place for you to move forward. Dreaming of being abroad means that you have been working too hard, and your mind is trying to tell you that it is time to stop and take a break.
In retrospect, I think there are truths to the above interpretations. I have taken several wrong turns in my life. I have more than my fair share of sadness, frustrations and worries that have probably affected my subconscious. I really need to change my routine and break out of my comfort zone.
