Today is Christmas but it is more than just Christmas to me. It is a very special day for me and my wife for it is our Ruby Wedding Anniversary. Four decades spent together is a very special milestone in its own right. To my dearest wife I dedicate this poem:
The year of 1982 was a very special year
We exchanged vows to love each other dear
40 years have passed so fast
But our marriage has stood the test of time and last.
It was in December 1980 that we first met
Your white dress I will never forget
You walked to my uncle’s house in Hua Kiew Road Sibu
From your auntie’s house two doors away in Hua Kiew Road too.
It was love from the start
The first day you came into my heart
We roamed the streets of Sibu hand in hand
Dreading the day your short trip to Sibu would come to an end.
One by one each year flew by
But the memories are what money can’t buy
With a treasure chest of forty years of memories
Hanging up these memories will weigh down a huge Christmas tree.
Yes, forty years have gone by so fast
We have been through so much throughout our past
Some tearful times along life’s way
And unbridled joy on many milestone days.
Today’s really special for us both
A day of reflection and sweet thoughts
We’ve had our ups and downs in life
Through thick and thin our love has survived.
On our Ruby anniversary sweetheart
You know you’ll always have my heart
We don’t know what else the future may hold
But I know you’ve a heart of gold.
Forty years together and counting
It’s really quite a feat worth celebrating
And with the birth of our granddaughter Kayla
Our lives have become a Shangri-la.
