It’s December again
2018 is coming to its end
Bringing closure to my 61st year on this earth
So many years have passed me by since my birth.
Feeling like a car with a lot of mileage
I sometimes wonder how I can manage
My old body seems to be alerting me to some red flags
I should pay heed and pull some brakes.
Ageing engenders a myriad of costs
It imbues me with a sense of loss
The labyrinth of health management is confusing
Vertigo causes my world to go into a dizzying spin.
I must strive to accentuate the positive
Instead of being bogged down by the negative
Life is a journey and it’s about growing and changing
The road less travelled can be more rewarding.
In a year plagued by setbacks and disappointments
There are some bright spots and some precious moments
The migration of my son and daughter-in-law to Australia
Brought a huge dose of much-needed euphoria.
The Adelaide trip was filled with wonderful moments of delight
Bringing a much-needed respite
The cold spring was rejuvenating and therapeutic
And the views so scenic and majestic.
My two sons are the source of my pride
They value integrity and take life in their stride
With compassion and respect for others in their sphere
Dedicated to values they hold so dear.
2019 lurks around the corner
May it bring joy and honour
May good health hold sway
In Jesus’ most precious name I pray.
