I have tasted the pineapples of Saba Orchard on a few occasions in the past courtesy of my brother Chin Tian and my sister-in-law Christina Sio. I love the sweetness and the taste of the Lambir Pines so I always look forward to eating these pineapples.
Yesterday when I was sending my brothers Chin Tian and Chin Kiong as well as my mum to the airport, Chin Tian again passed to me two pineapples from Saba Orchard. My brother Chin Tian had bought a lot of the pineapples for my brother Chin Kiong and my mum to bring back to Kuching. I asked my brother Chin Tian for the house address of Austin & Winni Saba so that I can go directly to their house to buy the pineapples whenever I feel like having pineapples.
Early this morning while sending my son to work, we dropped by the house of Austin & Winni Saba. I met Austin and he told me that he would go to his orchard to harvest the pineapples later and would probably be back at about 2 pm. I asked him to reserve at least 10 pineapples for me and gave him my hand phone number.
At about 2.15 pm, I received a call from Austin and I told him that I would drop by his house at about 3 pm to pick up the pineapples.
It so happened that I had ordered Kentucky Fried Chicken at about 1.45 pm for my office colleagues as today is my second last day prior to my retirement. The order taker when I called 1300-222-888 told me that my order would be delivered in about half an hour.
I waited and waited. 45 minutes went by. I decided to call KFC again. After talking to the order taker, I was told to hold for a while as she need to contact the manager of the KFC outlet that she had given the order to. I was then told that my order would be delivered soon and that the manager of the outlet would contact me. A couple of minutes later, the manager called me and told me that my order would be delivered in about 5 minutes. I resumed waiting for the arrival of my order. Seconds ticked away, then minutes passed. Another 15 minutes later, my order was still undelivered. Getting a bit pissed off, I could not restrain myself from giving the order taker another call. Again I was told to hold while he contacted the manager. A short while later, the manager called me and asked me if I had received my order. Though I felt like giving her a piece of my mind, I politely told her that my order was still not yet delivered. She promised to call the delivery guy to deliver as soon as possible. It was about 10 minutes later that the delivery guy finally showed up. It had taken them about one and a half hours to deliver my order! What a lousy service!
Caught up with the waiting for my KFC order, I completely forgot about collecting my pineapples. It was only when I was driving to pick up my son from his office along Jalan Brighton that I suddenly remembered about my pineapples.
I quickly dropped by Austin’s house. Luckily he was at home and led me inside the compound of his house. The St Joseph Alumni Association committee members were having a meeting there. And I met my Facebook friend Irene J Yong (whom I have not met face to face before) there too. Hi, Irene, nice meeting you!
Austin had reserved 12 pineapples for me. I chatted with him for about half an hour. When I told him that tomorrow will be my last day at work, he congratulated me on my retirement and told me that I would be able to enjoy life from now on. He told me he retired from Sarawak Shell about 20 years ago when he was only 50. At almost 70, Austin is a picture of good health and fitness!
