Tossing and turning in my bed
Counting sheep in my head
Forlornly staring at the ceiling
Sleep just ain’t coming.
The monotonous ticking of the clock
Tick-tock tick-tock tick-tock
Exacerbating my sleepless misery
Eyes wide open feeling so weary.
Hours have gone by
Soon I will be kissing the night goodbye
Oh, why must you torture me so
Insomnia my dreaded foe.
My body yearns for sweet rest and sleep
But you torture me like a heartless creep
Pushing me to the verge of lunacy
I humbly plead for your mercy.
Into my mouth I pop a sleeping pill
Out of desperation rather than looking for a cheap thrill
The pill slowly takes its toll
Just as the roosters start to crow.
