Jade Richards Wows X Factor!

It is a beautiful Sunday here in Miri, Sarawak. As usual, I went online shortly after getting up from bed on a lazy Sunday. As I browsed the online site of the Daily Mail, news about Jade Richards’ performance of Adele’s “Someone Like You” last night on X Factor caught my attention. Being a great fan of Adele, I could not resist reading the news and then watching the YouTube clip of Jade’s performance.

And I must say that I am blown away by Jade’s performance. She’s really good and her rendition of ‘Someone Like You’ is spine-tingling. Hey, a new star is born!

The fact that too many X Factor contestants have auditioned by performing Adele songs has given rise to criticisms in the past but no one was complaining last night when Jade Richards took to the stage to sing Adele’s monster hit “Someone Like You.”

The 21-year-old from Fife stunned all the four judges with her emotional, heartfelt performance, reducing judges Kelly Rowland and Louis Walsh to tears and with Tulisa Contostavlos and Kelly giving her a standing ovation at the end of the audition. Jade sailed through to “Boot Camp” with ‘Yes” votes from all the four judges.

On why she wanted to take part in the X Factor, Jade said: ‘Most people where I stay don’t do much at all so this would hopefully give me the boost that I need to do something.’

Giving credit to her grandma who was there supporting her, Jade said: “My gran, my gran is quality, she used to be a singer as well so that’s where I got my influence from. She just encourages me all the time, and supports everything that I do.”

“I want to do something with my life,” Jade admitted she wanted the X Factor to take her out of her life in Fife

Kelly, who could hardly control her emotions, told Jade: ‘I’m so emotional. I whispered to Gary before you started singing –  if this audition goes the way I think it’s going to go then it’s going to be amazing.

Kelly continued: ‘Because I had a dream about this song. And the fact you came here and stood on that x and sang that song so beautiful. You have the X Factor and then some.’

Tulisa added: ‘While you were singing I felt I heard your whole life story through your voice.’

Gary Barlow praised Jade, saying ‘That was absolutely fantastic. You have blown this whole place away. Jade, that performance is going to change your life.’

Louis, who was so emotional that he was reduced to tears, told Jade: ‘You have a God-given talent and you just make the whole show worthwhile, I’m so glad we came here.

‘I’ve been doing this show for 8 years and this it’s what it’s all about – finding someone who deserves a break, and you deserve a break because you’ve got talent.’

Jade Richards’s dreams were almost shattered before they had even begun when she was involved in a high-speed car crash a week ago when she was driving alone in her home area.

She was shunted from behind after being temporarily blinded by sunlight and braking suddenly, triggering a second collision with a car in front.

Jade, a former student at Glasgow’s Academy of Music and Sound, was taken to hospital where she was treated for the effects of whiplash. And fortunately for X Factor, she was able to make it to the show!
