I have not been to Piasau Nature Reserve for more than two months. I remember seeing Jimmy and Juliet mating when I visited the reserve on October 19 so I have the sudden urge to visit the reserve this evening to see if anything has evolved from that mating.
I was in for a little shock. I used to park my car in the car park of Piasau Boat Club whenever I visited Piasau Nature Reserve in the past. But the entrance to the car park is now fenced up and you have to enter through another road which is manned by a security guard who refused to allow me to enter the premises as I am not a member of Piasau Boat Club. I had no choice but to just park my car right in front of the Sarawak Forest Rangers’ office where the nest of Jimmy & Juliet is located.
I know Juliet is in nest when I saw that the area near the nest is cordoned off by plastic tapes. Then I saw the little sign informing the public that Juliet is in nest and requesting the public not to venture beyond the boundaries of the cordoned area. Juliet is going to be a mum soon!
I can see that the nest has been sealed up except for a small slit. Juliet will remain enclosed in the nest as Jimmy delivers food to her and then to the chicks through the slit. Juliet will go through a complete change of her flight feathers while hidden in the nest. Once the nestlings are born, Juliet will break out of the nest and join Jimmy in provisioning food for their young.
I really look forward to see the offspring of Jimmy and Juliet in the near future.
