Look in the mirror first
Before you explode in outburst
Make sure your own life can withstand a public examination
Before you point your finger in accusation.
Many people are loyal to you
As long as they need you
But once their need of you is gone
You’ll be left all alone.
When you pass judgement on another
You do not define him or her
You only define yourself
Laying bare your inner self.
What you sow you reap
Always look before you leap
Talking bad about someone behind their back
Speaks more about you than the person about whom you are talking bad.
When your actions don’t match your words
Your supporters will abandon you in hordes
Evaluate your words before they leave your lips
For you can cause great damage if you let callous words slip.
Take a hard look in the mirror for introspection
Ask yourself whether you are proud of what you see in the reflection
Cast out the beam out of thine own eye
Only then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
Look in the mirror first
Before you swear and curse
Make sure you put on your glasses
It may save you a lot of blushes.
Apt remember for one not or never to be judgemental. An imperfect world would appear perfect if peopleoverlooks others’ short comings.
Great poem, Chin Yong.
Thank you, Tingang. I saw the headline “Look at the man in the mirror” in the Star website last night and it prompted me to write this poem.
