Malaysians Cannot Speak Proper English Issit?

Manglish

Manglish

Imagine a bowl of kolomee,

Maybe you prefer kampua mee,

Where the noodle represents proper English,

Add in seasonings of Malay, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien and Tamil to get Manglish.

Manglish is a Malaysian English-based creole,

Linguists have studied it with much allure,

It’s like an official declaration of Malaysian identity,

The way we express ourselves with spontaneity.

The trend of using Manglish has grown rapidly,

Becoming an integral part of our vocabulary,

The ubiquitous word lah used at the end of a sentence,

Seem to have gained much acceptance.

When your friend asks you to go for dim sum,

You feel like a bum,

For you can only afford roti canai,

You are so pokai.

Sitting at the roadside mamak stall,

Feeling paiseh and very small,

Mat rempits roared noisily by,

You feel like kanasai.

A beautiful Mat Salleh lady come into sight,

Your friend whistled phew wit with all his might,

“Giler ah you! Don’t kacau her,” you exclaimed,

“You so potong stim!” your friend claimed.

Your friend asks you what you want to eat,

You say cincai from where you sit,

Kopi-O is what you need,

To prevent you from falling asleep.

The kopi-O is half-past six,

Making you angry and sick,

Yam-cha with friends should have been syiok,

But you seem to be in a shock.

You ask your friend to tumpang,

After you finish your makan,

As the car goes into gostan,

It went into the longkang.

The car tyres are without flower,

And your driver friend is blur blur,

Walao and alamak is all you hear,

As a small crowd gathers near.

Better push the car out of the longkang,

Before we kena saman,

Faster cabut and siam the police,

Who may turn up without any notice.

Away from the site we drive,

Before the police arrive,

I feel kesian for my friend,

His dad will say he has no brain.

Fuyoh! My poem has turned out so long,

How I wish I can turn it into a song,

C’mon lah, gimme some credit,
