The Final Seven by Erica Spindler

If I have known that The Final Seven by Erica Spindler is a supernatural thriller, I would not have read it as I have never been a fan of the supernatural or fantasy genres of books. The only reason I chose the book was because of its good ratings on Goodreads. The Final Seven is a story of light vs. the darkness and it launches the Lightkeepers series by Erica Spindler.

Set in New Orleans, seasoned cop Det. Micki Dee Dare of the NOPD is assigned a new partner out of the FBI’s experimental Sixers program, whose members possess senses beyond the usual five. She does not take kindly to her new partner, Zach Harris, as she has worked very well with her previous partner. She is instructed to keep Zach alive while he fights crime using the special skills he brings to the table. Despite her objections, the die has been cast and there’s nothing she can do about it. Everything is top secret and Micki does not even know her new partner’s special talents. She resents the idea of a “psychic” partner.

The two join forces on an unusual missing person’s case. Micki soon realizes there’s more to her partner than meets the eye and there’s a new kind of evil lurking, an evil more powerful than any she’s ever encountered. And she and Zach may be the only ones who can stop it.

As another woman goes missing and the darkness closes in, Micki acknowledges a terrifying truth: a terrifying, incomprehensible darkness might just consume them all .

Micki and Zach collect enough evidence to suggest that an evil entity known as the Dark Bearer abducted the young women. Fortunately, the Lightkeepers are there to assist them in in their fight to prevent the Dark Bearer from claiming more victims.

The Final Seven is a well- plotted crime drama with paranormal flare and a dash of romance for good measure but it is not my cup of tea and I will pass on the next Lightkeepers instalment. Erica Spindler has been hailed as “The Master of Addictive Suspense” and “Queen of the Romantic Thriller” and with this new series, she adds another feather to her cap: Master of Supernatural Suspense.
