Ben Hope is enjoying life at Le Val, the facility in Northern France where he trains others in the dangerous art of hostage rescue. When a training seminar goes horribly wrong, Ben’s client ends up with injuries in a fight with Ben and Ben has no choice but to take over from his client pro bono the role of bodyguard to the Swiss billionaire Maximilian Steiner.
The victim of a recent attempted abduction, Steiner seems to be the target of a neo-Nazi terror group bent on seizing a prized document from his personal collection – one that could support claims that the Holocaust never happened.
When Ben flies with Steiner in a helicopter, a group attempts to kidnap Steiner. While protecting Steiner, Hope comes across a woman from his past among the would-be kidnappers, which derails his efforts and leaves Steiner completely enraged. Hope is fired and returns to France, only to discover that his entire business is about to be financially decimated by a lawsuit related to the aforementioned fight. With everything to lose, Hope travels to Austria to track down these neo-Nazi soldiers in hope of finding out more about the woman as he tries to piece things together.
Meanwhile, physicist Dr. Adam O’Connor learns that two of his friends have died, but thinks nothing of it until his son, Rory, is kidnapped. To save his son, Adam is willing to do whatever his son’s kidnappers want – resurrecting a Nazi weapon, nicknamed The Bell, which might have turned the tables on the Allies back in 1944 and closely relates to the document Maximilian Steiner owns. With limited time and a new ally in the mystery woman, Hope races to find and dismantle this weapon.
Scott Mariani has done it again! I absolutely love these books with Ben Hope even though there are times when things seem a bit far-fetched. Bring on the next Ben Hope novel!
