Train To Busan – What A Ride!

Train to Busan is speeding away like a runaway train in Malaysia, having grossed over RM20 million since it began screening on September 8 and making it the top South Korean film in Malaysia’s box-office history.

It stars Gong Yoo, child actress Kim Su-an, Jung Yu-mi, Ma Dong-seok and Choi Woo-shik. What is really amazing is that this movie is the debut movie for director Yeon San –ho.

TRAIN TO BUSAN is an emotional, suspense filled movie that effectively mixes drama, humour, action, horror and the right amount of visceral violence when necessary. Seok-woo (Gong Yoo) is a divorced workaholic who lives with his mother and barely spends any time with his daughter Soo-an (Kim Su-an). He’s so distant from her that he buys her a Nintendo Wii for her birthday, forgetting that he has already bought one for her for Children’s Day. To make up for this rather-awkward moment, he agrees to give Soo-an what she really wants—a trip to her mother’s home in Busan, 280 miles away. Just as the train takes off, a very disorientated woman stowaway boards the train. The passenger turns into a ravenous member of the undead and the train ride becomes a struggle for survival when the zombies inside the train start multiplying. The survivors start dwindling, becoming more and more desperate and vicious against each other. Along with the father and daughter duo is a group of young baseball players, a couple expecting their first child and two elderly sisters all of whom also represent an entire spectrum of ethical competencies.

TRAIN TO BUSAN is a tale that pits humanity’s fragile virtues and delicate principles with a ferocious zombie infestation catastrophe. You root for the main characters as people begin to show their true colours. It is a marvel to behold with brilliant storytelling complemented by excellent action choreography and some breathtaking horror.
